When you step into community organizing in a city as vibrant, complex, and historic as Philadelphia, you quickly realize that waiting for permission or massive organizational structures will leave critical neighborhood needs unaddressed. That is why I chose to build Empower25 as a solo organizer.

True grassroots trust cannot be manufactured in a boardroom; it is built on the pavement, block by block, listening to elders talk about the changing landscape, seeing young people navigate underfunded spaces, and speaking truth directly to power at public hearings and town halls. Doing this work firsthand means confronting the daily disconnect between what municipal systems claim is happening and what residents actually experience outside their front doors.

Starting solo isn't about isolation—it's about agility, transparency, and unfiltered accountability to the community. When we strip away bureaucracy, we get straight to the heart of what our neighborhoods need to thrive.

In urban advocacy, conversations around safety and community development often overlook the specific vulnerabilities and leadership of Black women and girls. We cannot achieve real, lasting progress in Philadelphia while ignoring the safety and foundational well-being of the women holding our families and neighborhood networks together.

Whether we are fighting for proper public infrastructure like fully functioning neighborhood libraries, pushing for robust police oversight accountability, or demanding transparent municipal responses to neglected neighborhoods, the core priority must always center the dignity of our most vulnerable populations.

Empower25 remains deeply committed to lifting up these truths, demanding equity in resource distribution, and ensuring that our voices aren't just invited into the room—they dictate the agenda.

One of the most fulfilling parts of the Empower25 mission is our annual community giveaway. Every year, seeing families come together to receive essential food supplies, winter clothing, and vital neighborhood resources reinforces why grassroots mobilization matters so much.

Organizing these givebacks single-handedly is a massive undertaking—from coordinating supply drop-offs to spreading the word across local networks. But seeing the immediate relief and joy on the faces of our neighbors makes every late-night planning session entirely worthwhile.
